See how a quarter-goal handicap splits one stake across two nearby lines and how wins, losses and pushes combine.
A quarter line such as -0.25 is divided into -0.0 and -0.5, with half the stake on each. A +0.75 line is split between +0.5 and +1.0. This split is why quarter lines can settle partly as a win or partly as a loss rather than producing one all-or-nothing result.
Suppose a team is selected at -0.25. If it wins, both halves win. If it draws, the half at 0.0 is normally returned while the half at -0.5 loses. If it loses, both halves lose. The exact payout still depends on the price and the competition’s settlement rules.
A minus handicap asks the selected team to overcome a goal deficit; a plus handicap gives it a notional head start. Confirm which team the line belongs to and whether the market uses Asian or European handicap rules. Never infer a settlement from the number alone.
